Exterior
Having been treated to a glass-out repaint in 2017 this striking Ur Quattro presents in excellent condition throughout. The Amazon Blue metallic paintwork remains to a very high standard with little more than a couple of small chips and marks on the front bumper to report – certainly nothing to detract from the car’s overall highly impressive appearance. All the lights are clear and crack-free, including the reflector panel and correct red/amber units at the rear, and there is no damage to any of the black plastic trims. She’s arrow-straight along both sides and the wheels are also perfect having been previously refurbished in the correct Zermatt Silver finish.

Interior
The Brazil cloth upholstery could not be more eighties and, having never required a re-trim, we’re pleased to report that it’s all-original throughout. The heated sports seats are still very supportive and even commonly worn areas such as the driver’s bolster remain in excellent condition with no damage to the fabric. The dash, centre console, leather steering wheel and gear knob are also in fine original order and again hint at only light use. The digital instrument cluster is fully operational – as is the electronic voice synthesizer – and the all the switchgear is still reassuringly solid to operate. The rear seats are exceptional.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Under current and previous ownership the Quattro has been fully re-commissioned so it’s ready to be driven and enjoyed. Major works undertaken in the last few years include a turbo and cylinder head rebuild, and more recently the bottom end has been overhauled as well. Many thousands have been spent bringing the car up to the excellent mechanical condition in which it now presents, including the suspension, steering, injectors, exhaust, gearbox, diff, ECU, etc.
History File
The Quattro was first registered in November 1984. It was supplied new by J. Gilder & Co. in Sheffield and has now driven 128k miles in the hands of only 6 owners. The original VAG document pack is still present and includes the dealer-supplied service booklet which is stamped up to date. The remaining History File comprise a thick raft of invoices and documentation dating back to the mid-nineties, numerous MOT certificates, a detailed breakdown of the car’s maintenance and re-commissioning since 2017, an original spare key, and the V5C showing 5 former keepers (current since 2020).
Audi Automobilwerke GmbH Zwickau was founded by August Horch and his partners. In August 1928, the majority of shares in Audiwerke AG were acquired by Jørgen Rasmussen, the owner of Dampf-Kraft-Wagen (DKW) In 1932, Audi merged with Horch, DKW, and Wanderer, to form Auto Union. Auto Union used the four interlinked rings as their logo, the Audi badge today, representing these four brands.
After the war, Daimler-Benz had taken 100% holding in the Auto Union company by1959. By mid-sixties they had decided to sell to Volkswagen -a decision Mercedes must be regretting by now. Under VW control they took the two-stroke DKW F102, fitted it with a modern Mercedes designed four-stroke engine et voilá a new modern Audi had emerged. The rest, as they say, is history.
