MG MGB GT 1973

Allgemeine Beschreibung : 1973 MGB-GT

In 1973 this car sold on the Isle of Man, from Mylchreests Motors to a young lad who traveled to Australia and took his home market MGB-GT with him.Not long after, he immigrated to the US and landed in West Hartford CT. He drove it for years and eventually, with several newer cars in the stable, this car sat. The current , second owner (we'll call him Jon), was in West Hartford picking up another MG when the first owner's brother saw Jon loading up the other MG, he asked Jon if he'd be interested in another. Initially not interested, as the man told him that it was a one owner, right hand drive, UK market car, he became interested.

Jon went and saw the car, equipped from the dealer with a Britax/Weathershields sliding top (just like a Webasto), still running the original engine and overdrive 4 speed transmission, with just 78,000 miles on it (it seems the speedo and odo were switched out upon his arrival in the states). He got her fired up and drove her home.

This was back in roughly 2014.

Jon quickly set to restoring this Harvest Gold, 1 owner car back to her former glory. Sills, castle rails, floors and parts of the quarter panels were all replaced. The engine was rebuilt to original higher compression UK specs, the over drive transmission was rebuilt at Quantum Mechanix in CT. The original blue, cloth interior (generally a home market only item) was reupholstered, custom carpets sewn and the Weathershields top redone as well. The car was repainted in the original Harvest Gold. The entire front end was torn down and rebuilt, using poly bushings, brand new shocks, front and rear, new gas tank, axle completely refurbished. Everything was gone through and made as the factory intended.

The restoration took over two years and in 2017 she was out on the road. She was featured in Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car magazine, taken to shows throughout New England, taking awards as she went.

Jon has driven her to nearly all of those and has racked up another 2500+ miles in his travels. Although there are nearly 82,000 miles on the odometer, the car has been totally disassembled, rebuilt and reassembled and as such has just about 2500 miles on her since.

This car runs and drives beautifully, handles well and has 4 new Nankang 14" tires.

The under carriage is in near perfect condition and has no rust or rot whatsoever.

There are a couple of chips in the golden paint and an unfortunate issue has appeared, where a chemical based paint stripper was used, apparently a minute amount got under the welting on the front and rear and has caused some very minor bubbling. This is not rust and one has to look for it to see it, but it's there.

Jon is an MG guru and has performed most of the work himself, so there aren't $30,000 in receipts, however, if one added up all his labor, he'd be pretty damn close.

This is a high #2 car, can be driven as she is without hesitation, taken to car shows and awarded for the effort.

Due to this being one of the better MGB-GT's currently on the road, low ownership and a dealership installed soft top, the asking price is $14,900.

Any questions, for many more photos and video, to schedule a time to see her in person or to make an offer, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for the interest.
